I went to watch Saaaz’s set at an Illegal Data night in winter last year and turned up earlier, coincidentally catching TEEN’s set before. I’d never seen anyone play with rhythm, pitch and silence the way he can and found it totally captivating. I was so excited when he agreed to work with me and we’ve written more together since this track. We got to know each other throughout 2020 so it’s a real pleasure to share this with him.
My favourite part of this song is the vocal processing because it was so much fun automating reverb tails and playing with formants. The instrumental is so delicate which goes perfectly with how I felt when I wrote it: delicate, fragile and scared for the future of a relationship.
This song sat on my hard drive for months as one verse and chorus with an arpeggiator synth and nothing else, so it’s so cool to see how it’s grown and developed into what it is now.
