Chrysalis is one of two final songs from me as an artist. It’s a bittersweet moment, but there seems to be no other way for me to be an artist anymore while I continue to show up as a character I created in 2017 when I didn’t like who I was. I don’t feel that way any more and so, after a little break to collect myself, I’ll rebrand and start again. However, YouTube has proven my favourite place on the internet. I’ll rebrand this to my real name later this month and continue sharing content around music production.

As for Chrysalis itself, I wrote this song during the pandemic when I was watching someone I love go through something heartbreaking. I didn’t feel ready to support them as I felt so emotionally vulnerable myself. This song is a request for delicacy. I wrote these lyrics in one sitting and they’ve not changed from the way they naturally fell out of my mind in the moment. Some of the lyrics in this song are my favourites I’ve ever written, so I’m grateful it exists. I’ve never heard anyone rhyme ‘chrysalis’ and ‘limit is’ before and I think that’s really cool.

My vision for the music video for this song was to recreate Britney’s video for Sometimes on Severn Beach. I’ve still never been there.
