This is my favourite song on the EP and I can’t wait to play this live, whenever that’s allowed to happen. I just can’t listen to this track sitting still which was pretty much my only goal with it.
The first song Mun Sing and I worked together on was ‘Heavy Crown’ and I adored how he turned it into something completely different to how I’d imagined it. I love producing for myself so much that I’ll only really collaborate with someone on production if I feel they bring something that I couldn’t do myself.
I wrote this song when reminiscing about a relationship I had at university which wasn’t particularly satisfying. The other person was overconfident throughout and no one at the time had told them their confidence was misplaced. It’s definitely a tongue-in-cheek look at that period of my life and I learned a lot about myself.
My favourite part of this song is the beat which is why I added the outro. ‘Pity Sex’ is also the only song to be featured in ‘Finale’ as it represents my healing from sexual trauma. It’s followed by the pre-chorus melody of previous single ‘Escape’ because it reminds me that no matter what happens in my life, music will always be there for me to fall into.
lyrics
You can call me a savage, but I know I’ll make you blush.
Let you think we’re going somewhere, when I don’t need you all that much.
Ruined my track record of good men, I guess that’s why they call it pity sex.
Baby, you know you’re not my type
And lately, I’ve been doing things that my body don’t like, no
I can’t control myself when I’m around these boys,
Useless, my mind says no but my body makes a choice.
This ain’t a currency, for your popularity
You ask conveniently, oh boy, you know I’ve got needs too
But I don’t need you, I can get a couple hundred boys like you
So join the queue, surprised you could see this through,
You let me take you higher, you know I do it better babe
You can call me a savage, but I know I’ll make you blush.
Let you think we’re going somewhere, when I don’t need you all that much.
Ruined my track record of good men, I guess that’s why they call it pity sex.
Do you need me to show you how?
Are you new to this, can’t your way around?
You say you haven’t gone without but babe, I’ve got my doubts.
Every day, I thank God I’m not committed to you
Now I play for the other girls cos’ somehow you’ve got them fooled
Always selfish with the pleasure, no way, should I have given you what I give to another
I don’t wanna argue with you but it’s obvious I’m right
I’ve raised your status baby
But never again not tonight
You can call me a savage, but I know I’ll make you blush.
Let you think we’re going somewhere, when I don’t need you all that much.
Ruined my track record of good men, I guess that’s why they call it pity sex.
Do you need me to show you how?
Are you new to this, can’t your way around?
You say you haven’t gone without but babe, I’ve got my doubts.
