This song was the hardest to record! I ended up having to do almost every line separately because I found it so challenging… who wrote these tough melodies?! Me… I also made it harder to sing when recording it as I couldn’t help myself adding extra ad-libs and harmonies.
I performed this track for the first time when supporting Walt Disco at Exchange in January. I loved playing it live because each of my backing dancers had a chorus to freestyle in. I feel so lucky to get to work with such talented people.
I adore this song because it sounds so messy, which perfectly describes so many physical experiences with someone else, even more so if you don’t know the person particularly well. My favourite section is the harmonies in the pre-chorus. I love how close they are to each other; it sounds really dark and heavy.
The last chorus with the string quartet actually started off as a bit of a joke. One of my favourite Christina Aguilera songs is ‘Get Mine, Get Yours’. It’s amazing how timeless the production is in ‘Stripped’, considering it came out in 2002. I love how the strings finish the song, but wanted to see how far I could take it. I pulled the quartet back to the start of the middle eight and left it there, wondering whether it was too extra. By the time I came to a decision about whether it sounded stupid or not, I was used to it and left it as it is. This song is also heavily inspired by Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ album.
lyrics
I heard you like magic and I heard you’re not very shy,
I’ll show you the future and what’s going on inside my mind.
I can tell you’ve never seen this confidence,
Someone to challenge your dominance.
Show me why they say you got the finesse,
And I’ll show you what it means to truly be blessed.
Wanna turn dreams into reality?
The same scene plays on repeat, wanna see how loud you can make me scream?
I wanna feel your skin on mine.
Wanna fly south for the winter?
I’ll show you wear it’s hot,
Cooking we can leave it on a simmer, but one day you’ve gotta take it up a notch.
Wanna turn dreams into reality?
The same scene plays on repeat, wanna see how loud you can make me scream?
I wanna feel your skin on mine.
I can get to where I wanna go, on my own.
I only think of you when I’m alone, all alone.
Take me to the unknown, make it last all night long.
I wanna feel your skin on mine.
